Email Upgrades Update
I've got a ton of great news about the upcoming email ugprades. First up, I've laid out our "rules of engagement". These rules outline our commitment to you to ensure that this series of upgrades goes as smoothly as possible.
Email Upgrade Rules
- All upgrades will occur in small batches. We will not be upgrading all customer accounts at the same time and will instead be doing small batches of up to 5000 customers at a time.
- All upgrades will occur in off hours. Upgrades to your email accounts will occur before 8am EST during the morning hours. We are doing this to ensure that we minimize interruptions to your use of your email service, and also to ensure that we will have staff available to answer questions if issues do arise.
- You will receive at least 7 days notice of the date that your account is scheduled for upgrade. When your account has been selected to be upgraded, you will receive an email notification from us outlining exactly what the specific changes and upgrades are and when they will take effect.
- No email will be lost. No mail that has been stored in your account or destined for your address will be lost during this upgrade.
- In case of emergency, we can rollback your upgrades. Our upgrade plan gives us the capability to reverse any changes we make to your account if issues arise. We have worked hard to ensure that our planning and processes have eliminated any margin for error, but in the event that issues do arise, we do have a plan "b" that can include simply reversing the upgrades to your account until we can address the issue that prevented us from successfully upgrading your account.
Email Upgrades Schedule
The first batch of email upgrades has been scheduled for August 15. All of the upgrades will be performed in small batches - the first group only includes 1500 customers. The upgrade will occur between 6am and 8am EST. If your account is scheduled for upgrade, you will have already received an email notice from us. All customers will be notified at least 7 days in advance of their specific account being upgraded. The next upgrade window will occur on August 20th with the third on the 23rd. Neither of the final two upgrades will proceed until we've evaluated the results of the initial upgrade. If we encounter issues, then we won't proceed with any additional upgrades until we've resolved the issues from the initial batch.
We will be scheduling subsequent batches once we have completed these three initial batches. We will be seeking to complete the upgrades as quickly as possible while maintaining a high level of uninterrupted service for our customers.
New Webmail Features
Based in large part on the feedback that we've received from our Webmail Preview program, there are some new features that will be included in the webmail upgrades.
Specifically, we are now offering support in four new languages - German, French,Italian and Portuguese, in addition to the English and Spanish support that were previously supported. (You will also notice in this screenshot that the login box is now displaying properly!)
Even more impressive is the new "Junk Mail" folder. This folder is where any spam that we filter out of your mail will be placed. If any of your real email accidentally ends up there, you will be able to drag it out of your Junk folder and put it in your Inbox. Even more impressive is the fact that you will be able to do this over IMAP as well if you use a desktop email client. Future iterations of this feature will include controls and tools that will allow you to report false positives and control what gets caught and what doesn't right inside the webmail Junk folder.
As always, if you have any questions, please be sure to leave us a comment.
